2 Flats 2 Silver Creek

i have been working on ben for the month of august, getting him willing to take our family and get away for a couple days and leave work behind.  we finally made it happen this week and took off for two nites up at silver creek.  tons of work to take little people camping, but well worth it once we got there.  ben cut teff seed the nite before we left, i had some office work, all ready a little behind schedule...then we got a flat tire on the 4-wheeler trailer, so we luckily were able to pull in to les schwab for that still in the valley.  once up the mountain, someone passing by our excursion said they could hear air leaking...another flat tire gashed with a rock.  two in one day!  the lady who owned the place was less than helpful and said we could use her verizon phone for $2 per minute :) since ben did not have the right wrachet, it was a def. blessing that my phone barely worked and we called our friends, the dorsey's, who were coming up.  they were late too and just passing by the eagle home depot and picked the wrachet up for us.  whew!  tin foil dinners that nite, a little ride to check out the fishing spots and throw some rocks in the creek and then some fun and chatting with our friends once they got there by the campfire.  ben and i rented a little cabin/shack with 2 old mattresses and a kitchenette.  it did have a fridge though, two electric lights, our own latreen attached, and it was clean!

the boys loved the chance to have some friends there for a short bit-too bad they had to leave so early!  ben took them on some rides to find bears and they even saw one with blue eyes :).  then we swam in the pool that morning before the dorsey's had to go.  we enjoyed the rest of the day eating campfire food, homemade granola bars (our tradition), going on a motorbike ride up to the lookout, tormenting chipmunks and throwing every possible twig in the fire, and swimming again and letting the boys stay up and play uno and pass the pig with us.  the only down side...bentley and emerson would not go in the outhouse.  good grief.  i finally let e go in her pull up.  great mom.  but bentley worked himself into a dither and backed himself up tight.  that, in itself, is a story.  i spared the boy of any pictures, but he is just now recovering even after he had to give up riding the 4-wheeler himself, etc.  it was just too much for him...

our last day, we venutered out to fish.  we had the wrong bait and a bobber on our only pole we brought, lightning mcqueen.  emerson and bridon stole all the pine cones and nuts the chipmunks dropped down on the cabin next door and burned them.  bentley finally went on the latreen, but it was a little too late!  we bid the cranky owner lady goodbye and took off.  but much to our good luck this time, the fish and game pickup was blocking the bridge stocking the stream with trout!  i grabbed the pole and some people there gave us the right bait-salmon eggs.  we took off the bobber and caught two fish in a row!  bridon and emerson fell in, ben slipped one leg in trying to save e.  i grabbed bridon.  we let the fish go.  put their dry pajamas on and we were off!  we had a great time, have to do it again..more than once every 5 years!

Sounds like a great trip--even with the flat tires!

Glad you got away. Sounds like it was worth all the work to get there.
