this year we did not have a 'laborious' labor day...well, i guess ben did technically. but, anyway, at the last minute, ben decided to join me and the boys for a quick trip down to mom and dad's on sunday after church. mom had a fine dinner ready for us when we arrived and then we relaxed and visited the rest of the evening and camille came over. on monday morning, bentley got up at the crack of dawn and mowed the lawn with grandma, while bridon played with the cats. bentley didn't give in on mowing. he followed or pushed the entire lawn.
i was thinking of putting him on ours with a helmet and steel-toed boots at age 5, but i'm reconsidering age 4 after i saw his skills! ben and i ran some errands, dropped some tomatoes off that i canned for aunt carolee since she is really down in the back, picked up some picnicking items, and then we took off for balanced rock! we dropped some fruit off at the beus' on the way down and then had a picnic with mom and dad at the little park on the edge of salmon falls creek below the rock. it was very windy and i wished i had thought of bringing a jacket for myself, but we enjoyed our food just the same!
we had the park to ourselves, but when we drove up to the rock, there were quite a few visitors. we trekked up the hill, but only g and g and bentley made it all the way to the top. bridon was not the best hiker and i was not planning on a hike, so wore some pretty horrible sandals. bentley did too...he only had a pair of crocs, but grandpa rescued him and even carried him down the hill after he got a goathead stuck in his foot. what a nice grandpa; he even shares his cherry punch with him! it was fun to get away, even if it was just for a little bit.
i remember going to balanced rock once as a kid and it was burning hot, so the weather this time was excellent! we are experiencing a nice little cool down. ben was back out at 3 a.m. that nite to cut teff seed over in notus. i don't know how he stays awake; it is insane! we had a great time...thanks for the fun everyone!!!

We're going to miss you guys at Tuft's this weekend. The day change made it so we won't be able to make it out there and we are so bummer. We were both really looking forward to seeing everyone. I guess we just keep trying. Feel free to stop by anytime you are over in this direction, we always welcome visitors!
