Life Lesson

the boys have been going with ben or grandpa the last few months to feed the calvies. today was butcher day for 4 of them.  brownie, t-bone,and his friends bit the dust.  i didn't really want the boys to experience the mobile butcher yet, but ben said it was time they learned about life.  bentley had all ready visited the cluck and pluck, but now both he and bridon got to see the steers get shot in the head and cut up.  i know, that sounds graphic, sorry.  luckily they were not scarred for life, but we did have to explain that we do that to animals only, and only the ones we are going to use for food, and not for any other reason.  ben said he got to skip school when the butcher came.  i remember one of the first times i saw a dead cow.  it was on our easter egg hunt out at my grandma & grandpa's.  a big, bloated dead girl cached in down in the brick house in campbell's.   kind of freaked me out. i was just hoping to find an easter egg.

You've got to love growing up on a farm. There are so many experiences I wish my boys would have.
I still remember how sad I was the day the butcher came out to kill my 2 4-H lambs. Sweetums and Nibbles. I never cared about the pigs, but I remember sitting in the little bedroom in the hallway crying and looking out the window at those lambs. So sad!

Good thing PETA doesn't read this. Your kids will know where their food comes from and they will appreciate the hard work, money, and time it takes to get it from field to table. Have a great time in Disneyland!

I still remember Lowel Hansen in the ward killing our pigs. My mom made us go into town and when we came back there was a mess in the pen. Couldn't really look at the Hansens quite the same after that! Haha! So glad your kids are having all these learning experiences...thats what animals are for!
