4th Crop

the last couple of days have actually started to feel like fall...although i've loved the nice weather! when i took dinner out to the baler, we had to wear jackets. although we kind of are in 'harvest' all year long, 4th crop and the starting of corn harvest bring back memories. riding with mom in the old truck during silage with corn spilling into the windows, me losing a bearing on the vine beater out north in the age of no cell phones :), the smell of damp dirt, going with dad to the cellar, and watching sis. wright tip the beet truck over up at macrae's. remember that? then there were those few falls where i got put in charge of cooking after school for whoever was around while mom was driving truck. i was pretty young and had only cooked for 4-H and with mom, so there i went...and what a mess followed. my poor mother! i think the food was actually pretty good, but the condition of the kitchen is another story. thus was born, 'stenchiladas!' ben and i actually took the nite off tonite and i hired a sitter for something else besides work. yah! it's literally been months since we've gone on a date!!!

Wanda tipped a truck over this year too...poor lady. For some reason fresh apples remind me of fall and riding in the GMC with the metal care bear lunch box. good times

Great pictures Maria. I'm feeling all nostalgic reading this. But even though I grew up there, I know I would be completely lost on a farm. You should see my poor garden!
I love it when you write about old memories. At least your food probably had good cheese in it (don't know if you remember my yummy frozen and thawed block of cheese that you teased me about forever after.)
