i'm not sure what it is, but both of my boys are not too interested in playing with toys. they both have had a feddish for getting out all the pots in the house and 'cooking'. recently, bentley started bringing in dried-down corn from the garden or field (he got to ride with grandpa on the combine the other nite) and then shells it into baggies or pots for cooking an
d planting. bridon loves to join and stir and spill it everywhere, while unloading the cupboards. i breath a sigh of relief sometimes when we have a cousin or friend over and they show bentley and bridon how to play with their toys. it's amazing! i'm not sure what the problem is, but it is weird! one of their favorite things to play with at church is a baggie of bolts and nuts that is in the diaper bag. i'm not saying they never play, but bridon's into everything while he's playing.
his recent love of catfood makes me gag. i always bring him straight in the house and brush his teeth. who knows what that stuff is made of? bentley enjoys playing for a few minutes, but always seems to find something grown-up to do.
such as this past saturday, he was relentless in having me help him put on an old backpack sprayer he found up at the shop. what 3 year old does this? he spent a good hour out there trying to fill it with spray (water), move it around, and spray weeds in the chilly, fall air. if i will sit and play with bentley, he will stay motivated a little longer. i try to do that more often, but where is his imagination i ask myself. bridon does have one love, and that is bentley's toy blender, but he looks to be following in his bro's footsteps. i'm holding out high hope that he will want to play with cool toys and games and make-believe stuff like i did as a kid. what are we doing wrong here?!

Maybe they heard about the recession and decided to make due with what they have :) hahaha
I think it is the funniest thing. I don't think it is that abnormal. Shoot, half the time kids have more fun with the box their toy came in than the toy!
What cute boys! I love Bentley with the backpack sprayer, I think that is so awesome!
maria, your kids are awesome. bentley cracks me up! he's a little man!
my kids love the boxes too. you know, i'm beginning to believe that when companies are designing toys they work to make it appealing for the moms because it sure seems like i'm the only one that likes the toys!
and, hey, don't worry about your kids playing grown-up things, they're just role-playing, you know, learning how to be great husbands, fathers, and workers.
Hmmmm...don't I remember you always wanting to be a grown-up too? Pretty soon Bentley will be organizing clubs, making lists, and giving Bridon assignments. Ha. Ha.
You're going to have to start buying premium cat food--at least then you'll know what it is supposed to be made of! Yuck! I would probably boil his tooth brush too :)
haha i love your boys!!
they are amazing!
that is so true! kids love adult things and pots/pans. Although Boston will play with toys, he always prefers trying on all my shoes, pulling socks out of a drawer etc. Love Bentley and the sprayer..too cute!
Wow, look what happens when someone makes a big announcement on a private blog. I don't check it until a month later! Congratulations on baby 3. I'm glad you followed your promptings. That's what makes you a good mom.
I like your personal shopper idea. It's a pain to run around to a bunch of places, I agree with paying a little bit more to make a it a lot easier.
Ok, next time we are both home in the summertime, I will jump off the island. :) I would love to float the canal, haven't done that since my wedding bbq!
I hope you're feeling better!
