For the LOVE of Halloween

i'm pretty sure it all started when i was in grade school and my mom was out driving beet truck. we always had really cool home-made costumes, but this year she was just too busy, so she encouraged me to sew it myself. i made a sweet, jailbird outfit for the ward rollerskating party, if i do say so myself! now, it's just in me...i love to come up with costumes and put them together, even if it nearly kills me (which it almost did this year!) i know, i know, i can buy them cheaper and they're probably warmer and more durable, but it's just a tradition i've got going and i can't give it up! it only went up from the jail bird, there was the main dish (table with my head as the scary, entree), the junkee (i made like $20 in change dressed as that in hs), the 80's punk in college, and oh, the list goes on. i had a singing nun costume made on the mission...we practically looked like them anyway!:) and there was the time i wore my mom's old hairpiece and an 'unnamed' cheerleader came up and let me know there was probably no way i would be able to save my hair after it had been ratted up like that...news alert people, it comes off! it's on a COMB...it's FAKE! funny! oh, i could really go on forever, but i won't. i do have to put in a few sweet pics though, after i've had more than MYSELF to dress up...double, triple, now quadruple the fun! here we have one of my all-time favorites...shrek and fiona in front of the cigarette stand at snake river mart.
then, there's the chick, cow, and bale of hay
and last year's little stinker...it's made of one of my old faux fur vests, back when i used to buy clothes! the tail on this was adorable, i stuffed it and used fishline to make it stand up like a skunk.
and now for this year's model...drum roll, please! first, the trip to get it...going to the thrift store is half the fun and it gets even better with kids. there was the vile public restroom that i held bentley over like a board so that he wouldn't get hepatitis, the hair-balled flannel shirt, but, yes, a blue cap for bridon's costume, a NEW beard for ben, and even 50 canning jars for $18 (i've been looking for these-although unrelated to halloween!) SO, we became paul bunyan, babe the blue ox, and then their juniors (same thing...except bentley called himself "paul onion") we had a ward party on wed. nite and had a great time. everyone had really awesome costumes! my favorite though, was sis. davis, who is 94...she dressed as little bo peep and stole the show!
our weekend was excellent! we had visitors just in time for trick or treating. mom, lisa, eldon, tylee, and blaiz. here we have the little munchkins getting ready to go! isn't that lion adorable?! the next day we had a fall party (always something fun for the kids) where we made leaf creations and a caterpillar from ritz crackers and chocolate-pb frosting (lost the picture-but i may post the recipe, it was very fun and delicious), we also went and ate pizza and shopped a bit, then on sunday had family pictures and went to church. we sure had a good time. thanks for coming everyone!

Love the costumes and the story about the thrift store shopping trip. Hepatitis, ha! I think my favorite year was still when Bentley has the chick, you were the cow and Ben was hay. So clever...
